I worked at Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens (SSK) for a total of 17 months. I started from a 5 week placement, to a temporary summer role and finally onto a year long permanent full time design role.
These months have been a very valuable experience that has taught me how the interior design industry works and what it's like to work with real - life clients and design briefs.
This experience has massively improved my interpersonal skills when working in a close-knit team; but especially when using telephone calls to liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors. As a result this has given me newfound confidence in myself as a person and a designer.
As a CAD designer I translated 2D designs into 3D Solid Edge models to then provide accurate plans for fitters and beautiful realistic KeyShot renders to present to clients. This required a keen eye for detail and a high level of communication for important information through the 2D technical plans.
One of the best CAD designs and renders I did was for a fully bespoke kitchen renovation (top left image). This kitchen was highly sustainable by reusing and altering the existing cabinets.
These were refitted with new bespoke cabinets which were rearranged into a new and improved layout that extended the kitchen. This was my favourite design but the most challenging and the one I'm most proud of from my time at SSK.
